For this set, Wizards of the Coast (WotC) released BattleZone Pokémon promo cards through tournaments, which were essentially a "farewell gift" for TCG fans.

Despite the collection being created to commemorate some of the best playable cards, four new cards that had never been released in English before were produced: Rocket's Scizor, Rocket's Sneasel, Dark Ivysaur, and Dark Venusaur. While these cards remained non-holographic, the other cards were given a special Reverse Holographic finish.

Several variants of these cards were also released. Tournament organizers and hardcore fans who passed a knowledge test (Pokémon Professors) received versions of some cards that had a "Winner" stamp in gold foil in the bottom right corner of the illustration.

The most valuable cards in this set include Rocket's Mewtwo and Rocket's Hitmonchan. The planned BattleZone tournaments were canceled after Wizards lost the license.
