Base Set
Base Set is the name of the first expansion set for the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG). It was released in Japan in 1996, with the English version following 3 years later in 1999. This set features the first-generation Pokémon (the first 151 Pokémon).
Among the biggest attractions is the collector-favorite trio of starter Pokémon from the original Game Boy games: Charizard, Venusaur, and Blastoise. However, that's not all the Base Set offers; it also includes Pokémon such as Mewtwo, Raichu, and Gyarados, and many other popular Pokémon that appeared in the first animated series in 1997.
The first print run of the English Base Set is known as 1st Edition Shadowless (it has a slightly different card design) and is significant mainly for its value, as it is the rarest due to its primacy and lower print run. The Shadowless Base Set was released as the second print, and finally, the Unlimited Base Set, which already has an adjusted card design and is more common among collectors.
The set contains 102 cards, of which 18 are holographic.
