Black Star Promo
Wizards of the Coast (WotC) produced a total of 53 numbered Black Star promo cards for this set. They served as exclusive and limited cards for promotional events and tournaments, where they were distributed, or were included as a bonus gift with another Pokémon product.
Due to this exclusivity, some of these cards have a high value (reaching hundreds of dollars when still sealed in their original packaging). For example, the Lucky Stadium and Pokémon Center cards were handed out in 2001 at the opening of the Pokémon Center in New York.
This set was originally intended to have more cards, but the manufacturer lost the license, which is why we only have some cards in the Japanese version; the English counterpart never made it to production.
