Gym Challenge
Gym Challenge is the name of the seventh main expansion set for the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG). It was released in Japan as Challenge from the Darkness in 1999, with the English expansion being released as "Gym Challenge" in 2000. This set features first-generation Pokémon (the first 151 Pokémon).
Following the style of Gym Heroes, it brings more Pokémon cards named after famous Gym Leaders such as Misty, Brock, and Erika. The most valuable and popular cards in this set are Blaine's Charizard, Team Rocket's Mewtwo, and Erika's Venusaur (Erika being the Grass-type trainer).
An interesting point about this set is the two Japanese card versions that were banned and later modified for the English release. The first is the Koga's Ninja Trick card, which featured a Swastika symbol, and the second is Misty's Tears, where the original naked art of Misty was changed to an image of Misty caring for a Squirtle.
The entire set contains 132 cards, including 20 holographic cards.
