Southern Islands
Southern Islands is a supplemental set for the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG). In Japan, the Southern Islands set was originally released in 1999 alongside the second Pokémon movie in two promotional folders (each containing 9 cards – Rainbow and Tropical Island). These sets focused on a specific region from one of the two Southern Islands: Tropical Island and Rainbow Island.
The English version followed later (in 2001) and was released as a decorative folder that included the complete set of cards, postcards, and a themed album.
The set contains a total of 18 cards, 6 of which are in a Reverse Holo finish. This set marks the first appearance of Reverse Holo cards, where the card is holographic on the text area as well. This set is particularly popular due to the Mew card, which also features a Charizard visible in the background.
